Seiko USA Joins Forces with PADI and PADI AWARE Foundation to Protect the Ocean World

Seiko USA, Mahwah, NJ, announced a new partnership with PADI and PADI AWARE Foundation’s Marine Debris Program to rid the ocean of marine debris. Seiko will take on this challenge by donating a portion of the proceeds from the Seiko Prospex Save the Ocean collection to give back to the diver’s community that is removing and reporting marine debris in aquatic environments.

The history of Seiko’s diver’s watches began in 1965 with Japan’s first diver’s watch. Since then, Seiko’s diver’s watches have developed in response to the needs of professional divers, introducing many landmark timepieces with real advances in safety, reliability, legibility and ease of use. Today, Seiko maintains the global standard for dive watches, preserving tradition and building on five decades of innovation through the Prospex collection.

At the heart of the PADI AWARE Foundation Marine Debris Program is the world’s largest underwater citizen science movement and clean-up initiative, known as Dive Against Debris. More than 70,000 divers have contributed to building the most comprehensive underwater database on seafloor debris on the planet, which is actively shared with NGOs, governments, and local communities to advocate change and work toward informing long-term waste management solutions.

Seiko’s initiative will be conducted with Sustainable Development Goal 14, to “conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development,” in mind.
